Cyber security awareness program at Rasbihari International School

Use of digital resource has become a need for everyone. With the introduction of new technologies, devices including smart phones/tablets and innovative applications on such devices, the usage of internet has increased dramatically. However, with increasing application and use of the internet, cyber-crime is emerging as a major challenge.

With schools now back in session, students may be re-establishing in-person friendships and making new ones, with social media being a major factor in many of these friendships. They can be exposed to unique risks in cyberspace.  We now understand that students’ online experiences play a significant role in their social and emotional development, which is why cyber safety education is a key component of most school’s anti bullying programs and student wellbeing programs.

Mrs. Poonam Gangurde, Primary IT teacher created awareness of these risks to the primary group of students as they are also now a part of the digital world.

Mrs. Gauri Joshi, Secondary IT teacher, conducted online session for kids to emphasize on benefits and opportunities offered by the online world, and simultaneously the risks and provided solution to avoid any potential harm. A quiz was conducted for all the students from Grade 6 to 10.

A webinar for secondary students was organized by IT team and Mr. Nilesh Dalavi, an investigation officer at crime prevention council and investigation, also an auther of the book     ” Password hacking techniques and security”  He briefed them about the Do’s and Don’ts of using the social media, shared tips for alertness and keeping password, briefed them about the concept of cyber bulling, social media hygiene and phishing stimulator. He also demonstrated how to create a unique password. During the webinar, students demonstrated curiosity and enthusiasm. They actively participated and clarified their doubts. 100 % participation of students was noted.

After the session, to demonstrate their learning, few of the students created poster, slogans, videos, PPT’s that briefs about cyber bullying and precautions one need to take.
