The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) organizes nationwide quiz every year to promote engagement, public participation and encourage youth under aegis of Ganga Knowledge Center. Apart from engaging the youth, creating awareness and knowledge, the Ganga Quest initiative aims at building a sensitized next generation that cares for our river ecosystem and adapts sustainable lifestyle that are commensurate with nature. Thus, the targeted objectives of the Ganga Quest are knowledge building, awareness creation, attitude orientation, knowledge gap assessment and base line determination.There were three rounds in the Ganga Quest 2020 quiz, each one with its unique questions. While the first round is in the form of a survey to assess the attitude of participants on many aspects of Ganga Cleaning, the second round is a knowledge building exercise. In third and last rounds participants face ten questions on two selected areas of knowledge out of the historical and cultural significance of Ganga, flora and fauna, current affairs, physical geography, famous places and personalities, governance, socio-economic and livelihood and pollution/water treatment technology; with fastest and correct answers making them compete for attractive awards like tablets etc. .With three winners in each category, a total of 12 winners were announced out of more than 11 lakh participants across the country. Out of 12 winners, three each are from Delhi and Karnataka and one each from Maharashtra, Assam and Uttar Pradesh.Out of the winners in the class II [Grade 9 and 10], Madhavi Deore, from Rasbihari International school has secured fourth position across the country in the final round, which in itself is an achievement. She answered most of the questions on various features of the river correctly and in the shortest time duration.She was personally acknowledged for her wonderful performance and will be awarded with certificate, trophy/special recognition, and a session with international experts from GIZ with students and teachers and a knowledge kit by the end of November.
